The Band
The Bedok North Secondary School Band first started out as a brass band in 1982.
By 1985, they were ready to be converted into a military band. In 1986 and 1988, the band made a bold attempt by participating in the 'SYF Indorr Band Competition for secondary Schools
In 1992, the school military band went for SYF 1992 Parade of Bands. With a combined effort between our band and Whampoa Secondary School, we managed to entertain all the onlookers as the band marched on.
Mr Lim Yeah Hwee 2002 - 2008
It was only in 2002, that the military band evolved into the present symphonic band.In that same year, we took part in the Chingay Parade. In December 2002, a leadership camp was held to groom the next generation of section leaders and band majors.
In 2003, the band participated in a joint concert performance at Nanyang Poltechnic Auditiorium to give the band members an opportunity to showcase their talents.
In June 2004, the band performed at the opening ceremony of the Lions, a charitable organisation. It was held in Suntec City, Fountain of Wealth. In the same month, the band went for an exchange program in Kuala Lumpur
The band had its first inaugural concert, Viva La Musica, on the 3rd December 2004 at Victoria Concert Hall.
In April 2005, the band had participated in Singapore Youth Festival, clinching a gold medal
The band had also performed at Sentosa the fountain of wealth in 2005.
Past band instructors included Mr Lee Kwok Hin, Mr Goh Ah Huat and the late but inspiring Mr Hashim. The school is honoured to have Mr Lim Yean Hwee, who took over in 2002, as the band instructor. He leads a total of contigent of 110 symphonic band members.
